Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18, 2000) is an American actor and singer whose career spans more than 40 years. London was a torch-singer and was well-known for her smooth, soft voice. She recorded over 30 albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955 and 1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was the recording of "Cry Me a River" which she first introduced in her debut album. In addition to the musical notice, London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award in 1974 in her role as nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency!. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. She began her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35-year acting career started in the film industry in 1944 which included roles for female leads in numerous westerns. She also starred alongside Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) and with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) along with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the middle of the 1950s, she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional musical career. The final album of her studio was released in the year 1969. She continued to be a hit in the role of the female main character in the role of Dixie McCall on the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) She was joined by her husband Bobby Troup. The show was created by her former husband Jack Webb.
