Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic and public speech writer. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which is a website with video content and blogs discussing the depictions of females in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian has been a blogger, journalist and award-winning feminist for over 10 years. Feminist Frequency is an educational and non-profit site that examines female representations within popular culture's narratives. Determined to challenge the assumptions of women that have been portrayed in popular culture, she works to raise issues related to the targeted harassment of women, as well as the marginalized groups of online world. Sarkeesian is a graduate in social and political thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she is popular and has been a speaker at TEDxWomenXOXO as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Interested in issues concerning gender identities and feminisms from her early years, she founded her site Feminist Frequency in 2009 while still a student at the university. The site was about to launch a series of online videos that examined the game's gender-based representations at the time she came under the sway of cyber-bullying. But the assault did have been a hindrance, rather it strengthened her determination as a feminist media journalist. Her significant contributions in the field of feminist have been recognized by numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winner for her media criticism and is the author of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization focused on the representations of women in pop-culture narratives.
