Dolly-Parton

Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19, 1946, in Locust Ridge Tenn. to a family of 12 poor children that would be raised together eventually, learned very early how to get out of difficulties through her vibrant and vivid imagination. Her songs were written before she could write or read. Her first guitar was given to her when she turned eighteen. The singer began her singing career at the Knoxville Tenn station by the age of 11. Gold Band Records is a small label that is independent. Even though she became popular in the local scene while she was at high school, her goals were bigger. On the very day she was able to graduate from the high school in 1964. Her first charting hits with Monument Records included Dumb Blonde and Something Fishy both in 1967. The syndicated television show of Porter Wagoner needed the services of a new singer by the time. Parton got her first gig in 1967, signed with RCA Records by 1968, and was a part of the Grand Ole Opry. The show ended in 1974 when her solo songs like Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene were out-charting their collaborations. Parton was a part of the group that split after the end of their relationship with Wagoner, wrote"I'll Always Be Loved" by You and had it reach Number. 1. for the first time since 1974.
